FAQ's
Where are you located?
Prairie Winds Pet Retreat is located approximately 8 km's south of Wainwright, AB on the corner of Airport Rd and TWP 440. We are 1 mile west of Hwy 41.
Can I bring my dog or cat's regular food?
Absolutely! We prefer you to bring your pets own food with you to avoid any discomfort to your pet due to switching off their regular food. This will reduce stress for your pet and allow them to have a more comfortable visit. Please label your pets food.
How often will my pet be fed?
We feed the cats and dogs 1 or 2 times a day, depending on what they are accustomed to at home. Please let us know what you would prefer when you drop off your pet(s).
My pet is on medication, will you board him? Is there an extra charge?
We would be happy to continue your pets medication while you are away provided we have written instructions from you regarding the amount and time it is given. There is no extra charge for this service.
Do I need to bring my pets dishes?
No, we provide all the animals with their own stainless steel dishes to use during their stay.
Will my dog get to play outside?
Yes, your dog will get an average of 3 hours outside per day (weather permitting). We have 3 individual play areas that are 9' x 65' plus one extra large area for dogs from the same family. We also have daily games of catch and there is pool time in the summer.
Will my dog be safe outside?
Our fences are all 6 feet high plus a 3 strand wire overhang to stop the best climbers. There is also extra mesh attached to the bottom and cemented into the ground for the most determined diggers. We also have a double gated entrance and latches on all of our gates. Dogs will not be walked in the yard off leash.
Does my dog or cat need to be vaccinated?
Yes, all dogs and cats need to be vaccinated a minimum of 2 weeks before their stay. Please see the vaccination page for more information
I have 2 dogs can they be boarded together?
Yes, we have double sized kennels for dogs to stay together. Please be aware that some dogs will fight in a kennel even when they won't at home. If this becomes an issue your dogs will be moved to seperate kennels and you will be charged for two. The safety of your pets is our first priority.
Can I bring my pets bed?
Each dog has their own Kuranda cot to keep them comfortable and off the floor. You are welcome to bring their regular blankets or bed to go on top but we will remove them if they start to chew pieces off of it.
Can I bring toys for my pet?
You are welcome to bring a few toys for your pet provided they are sturdy and cannot be chewed into small pieces. Kongs are always a great choice, we will fill with food and treats to provide your pet with extra stimulation.
Is there anything I should bring when I drop my pet off?
Yes, please bring your vaccination certificate. We will also require an emergency contact number while you are away.
Do the dogs play together?
At this time the only dogs that play together are the ones from the same household. All other dogs have individual playtime in their own fenced area.
Are grooming services available?
Grooming services are not available at this time.
